Los Angeles invaded Boulder for one night !!!!
Local Natives made a sort of homecoming to Boulder last night. Their bassist joked about going to CU for one hated semester before leaving for the sunny skies of LA. The West Coasters played a melodic set that kept a high level of energy for the remaining part of the evening for the respective sets. They set the bar high and pleasantly surprised the sold-out crowd with an electric set that saw new material from their forthcoming album to be released next year via Frenchkiss that I wrote about yesterday. It would be too easy to classify Fool’s Gold as”World Music”. Audience members became increasingly intrigued when the stage was adorned with instruments usually seen at a drum circle. Merry Swankster made an interesting observation wondering if the group was a” Jewish Rusted Root?” via his Twitter page. The reason for that statement is because the group sang in Hebrew on several occasions. I knew I wasn’t hearing things. An audience member asked the group during the show, “What are you trying to else us with your music?” explaining the Hebrew vocals. Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros played the kind of slap-happy set that everybody eagerly anticipated the entire evening. Their job was tough, considering that they had to play cleanup to two commanding performances by some of the best up and coming talent from the LA area. Alex commented on how the Boulder show was their largest headlining show they had played, ever! Their set can easily be described as one that was strong enough for me to consider quitting my job, packing up my family, and joining the commune to become a member of the cult. Yes, I will have another sip of that Kool-Aid, Alex.
