A storm of biblical proportions wherein at times it felt that Noah was about to fill his ark with animals two by two almost cancelled Wednesday night’s Billie Eilish and Denzel Curry show at Red Rocks.
Alas, the fierce clouds gave way to the seasoned rapper, Denzel Curry. At 24, Curry has lived a life that is on the scale of the biblical character, Job. Despite the loss of life that surrounds Denzel, the resilient Floridian plows forward in life. Most recently, the accomplished artist released his critically acclaimed album, “Zuu.”
The new batch of material is a selection of some of the most woke lyrics since his days as an integral member of the Raider Klan while moving towards a brighter spotlight away from the SoundCloud notoriety. The opening duties on the Billie Eilish tour seems a bit criminal on the surface due to what would look like a miscast by promoters. Eilish fans didn’t care one bit. Denzel captivated the predominantly tween crowd with a tight set of new material off of “Zuu.”
The ascent of Billie Eilish’s career path shouldn’t come as a surprise to fans. Last time the teen star performed in Denver, the venue was at the more intimate Bluebird Theater.
Wednesday night saw the future of music performing hits off of her smash selling album, “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go.” Billie is a force of brooding energy fueled by her rabid fanbase. From camouflaged pants to torn shorts with black stalkings, the inspiration of the shining bright artist was omnipresent throughout the legendary venue. Things popped off immediately with “bad guy” to the sullen single, “wish you were gay.”
2019 is halfway over, but it’s not foolish to think that this is the year of a certain seventeen-year old Californian in the music world.
