The Erase Me Tour made its way to Denver for a two-night affair. The multi evening visit featured the eccentric post-hardcore group Dance Gavin Dance, the brooding boys in Crown The Empire, and twisted metalcore act in The Plot In You as support to scene legends, Underoath. The band continues to make noise in 2018 with their first album cycle in eight years. Their latest project itself is a bit of departure at times from their well-known metalcore sound. Underoath’s material still seems to have a galvanizing effect on their fan base, which was made apparent by the mutual feistiness between performer and concert attendees on day two at the Ogden Theatre. As expected singles from the album dominated their set hard-hitting drums in “On My Teeth” translated well as the opener of the night. With Drummer/vocalist Aaron Gillespie literally crushing the kit and some other members chipping in on auxiliary percussion. The industrial beats in Rapture and overall rhythm of the song seemed to have everyone feeling themselves a bit. However, they didn’t fail in bringing everyone together with songs with more intimate arrangements or playing fan favorites. The crowd inside the Ogden went absolute berserk for Breathing in a New Mentality but were completely attentive for a track like ihateit. Many bands with half the experience under their belt would tap out if given the same circumstances. Or at best offer a poor attempt at trying to recapture what made them great in a comeback record. However, Underoath has churned out a well-made album and continue to ride on that success as the year closes out.
