Phoenix ::: Red Rocks ::: 06.07.17

Weather be damned! Not even a torrential deluge of frigid rain and a stunning lightening show was enough to stop Phoenix from taking the stage at Red Rocks this week. Equipped with a new album, the French rock stars rewarded fans a lights out (pun not intended) performance.

Thomas Mars and the boys wasted no time after the forty-five minute rain delay starting things off with title track, “Ti Amo.” The electrifiying cut minced no pleasantries and set the tempo for the brisk spring evening. Downpour or not, the night belonged to the Frenchies. Mars recognized that “Bankrupt” provided little power and rested the evening’s performance off of “Ti Amo” and “Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix.” A wise choice considering the progression the pop rock kings have demonstrated since the inception of their breakout hit, “Too Young.”

Somebody forgot to tell Miike Snow that they were the openers. The Swedish-esque act almost stole the show behind
charismatic lead vocalist, Andrew Wyatt. Not to be forgotten behind the 2009 hit, “Animal,” the unapologetic pop act knows their strengths. At times, the crew opted for extended guitar noodling and improvised renditions of their material that is rarely seen with groups of their ilk. The minimalistic sliver LED backdrop proved to be one of the more creative stage accessories seen in recent memory that proved to be the cherry on the top.
