After all of the trick or treating on Halloween, electronic outfit, Small Black, found themselves on the small stage at Larimer Lounge.Lead vocalist, Josh Kolenik, has morphed into the pillar for which the band leans on for direction and energy. Saturday night’s show further reinforced this notion with a short (ish) set that spanned the Jagjaguwar’s three albums. Just don’t call them chillwave. A label like that is insulting and minimalist. Despite the relaxed vocals, the electronic outfit inspires a youthful energy that is positively radiant. A sheer light that gleams on stage with delicate execution and digital manipulation. As for a trick or treat, the boys played a Washed Out cover to close their set with a full on dance party onstage with the whole venue invited to participate. The Brooklyn four piece are supporting their latest album, “Best Blues” out everywhere and currently on tour with Painted Palms.
