Two coasts collided last night, where Virginia’s Wild Nothing and California’s Abe Vigoda played in front of a capacity crowd that warmed up the stage for the Reverb dance party to be held later last night. Abe Vigoda brought the raw emotion and spastic circular beats that created fancy footwork amongst the audience. The set started early with glowing synths from “Throwing Shade” off of their latest album,”Crush.” The Smell stalwarts commanded the stage aggressively in their short set also performing my other favorite track off of the new album, “Dream of My Love.” Wild Nothing is riding a wave of popularity behind their critically lauded album, “Gemini.” Jack Tatum brought “the Witching Hour” to a Denver crowd who had seen a variation of gloomy 80’s tinged rock earlier this week when Minks came to Hi-Dive, however the end result was the opposite of what Minks brought to the table. The mundane factor wasn’t present. Despite the dreary nature of their music, Wild Nothing was able to maintain a sense of melody without sacrificing their dark approach to their craft. Last night, Wild Nothing had me thinking that it wasn’t a bad idea to “Live in Dreams,” because after all, what is life without dreams?
