Somethings in life would be too easy to do. Nickelback. The quickest way to any joke would be to mention Creed/Nickelback (insert punchline), and voila. Joke served. Last night was my first ever visit to Beta. Ever. I had gone several years ago when it existed as Rise. It was a two-story spectacle with amazing sound and extremely overpriced drinks. Not a lot has changed. The club has done away with the colored fluorescent lighting and installed an even larger soundsystem (or at least it appears that way). It was very important to go in with an open mind. Tiesto assembled a great list of contributors for his newest release that reads as a Who’s Who of indie rock. The production on the new album is a bit over the top, but what fun would it have been last night if they weren’t. People expect certain things from certain artists. An illustrious visual display of awesomeness on a huge ass projection screen while tripping balls and breaks/drops till last call. His set had the highest of euphoric highs and the dull moments weren’t so dull because of his newest arsenal that he’s dropping is some of the best he’s hit Stateside. The predictability that had plagued him for the last couple of years is long gone. It’s evident that he’s trying to cater to a different audience, but the same one showed up last night. He won’t win over the tight pant crowd, but his massive following couldn’t care less.
