This was my first Spoon show where I was able to focus on the show itself. Previous times were at music festivals or just times when we were going to see something else, because we thought, “we can always catch Spoon”but I regret not seeing them sooner, and Devotchka too.
Devotchka caught my eye immediately because of their fiddle. And correct me if I’m wrong, but everybody loves a good fiddle. Sounded very gypsy’s (is that even a word?) and the singer sounded kind of like Doug Marsch from Built to Spill, but in a good way, he sort of resembles him too.. I should have seen them sooner. I have no excuse, they are always playing in Denver. Right from the start there was lots of Jack Daniels to be had, and rightfully so, they were sponsoring the event. I don’t like Jack, but it was flowing like the waters of Lake Minnetonka. The event was co-sponsored by KBCO 97.3 , which is an adult radio format similar to KFOG in the Bay Area. As a direct result of this, Spoon was on some timed schedule causing for them to speed up their set. Nonetheless, they sounded very tight and very melodic.
Spoon, you can kind of see Britt Daniels
