Last night was my first Jeff Tweedy solo show. I have seen Wilco a couple of times in different venues. After witnessing last night’s performance, it only reaffirmed the obvious. Jeff Tweedy could be just as successful if not more than Wilco. At first, I was kind of apprehensive of what to expect, but Glenn Kotche put those butterflies to rest. The percussionist/drummer for Wilco opened up the show to a surprisingly warm crowd despite the arctic freeze that was forming outside. Kotche did a drum sayons (sp) for 40 minutes, but he could have played longer…. it kind of sounded like some African mating ritual, but what do I know. Tweedy came on shortly thereafter. I was elated at the fact that Tweedy dipped into the Loose Fur catalog. He covered most material from “Being There” to current. The highlight of the night had to have been hands down “Spiders (Kidsmoke)” acoustic….. The only downer for the evening was adjusting to my new camera. Basically, Tweedy played in a theatre for 1000 people with one light on the stage. It made it impossible to get any decent shot. Please forgive my ignorance with the new technology…Jeff Tweedy also played some songs without his p.a. and mic, just as barebones as possible….I must rest for tonight is going to be an even longer night, Sasha is in town at Vinyl tonight…
