Vivian Girls ::: Hi-Dive ::: 05.03.09

The Brooklyn scuzz trio opened my eyes to a new world of noise. Not the kind that you hear from fire trucks or screaming babies, but the girls performed in a way that made scuzz seem more refined. The three part harmonies didn’t sound muffled. You could distinctly hear the difference between the snare drum, bass, and guitar without shuddering or folding your arms. The girls have reinterpreted the meaning of garage noise and they exceeded my expectations. At times, the vocals resembled that of the Moldy Peaches, but I was OK with that because all the girls fit into their roles and exemplified what a garage band should sound like.  The girls are better than their hype should lead onto and I regret not catching them at one of their twenty shows that they played during SXSW.
