This is a steal! Amazon has the latest album from Great Lake Swimmers at $2.99. Go here to pick it up! Lost Channels embodies my favorite aspects of what I would like to call a “Road Trip Album”. It’s one that you can put on, not feel like you’re at the club/bar, great melodies, excellent songwriting, reminds you that you’re out in the sticks, and it is one my favorite releases of the year.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs on SNL
The group is riding high on the strength of their radio friendly , Zero, and why not? The album is consistent from top to bottom and one of my favorites of the year. I would look for their Summer concert agenda to come very very soon.

The S/T album from Fever Ray is one of my favorite of the early year for 2009. I have been given two prize packs to share with you guys so you can see what the fuss is all about! What I have for you are the S/T Fever Ray CD, poster, and If I Had A Heart 7″ with remixes. All you have to do is tell me what the name of her other project is by sending me an email to [email protected] .I will give the two prize packs to the first two people that send me the answer, along with their mailing address. Good luck!
The Pains of Being Pure At Heart ::: La Condesa ::: SXSW 2009
This group comes in second for the amount of shows played during SXSW, the first being the Vivian Girls. Despite the frequency of shows during the week, I didn’t catch them, but I didn’t despair because they’ll be here soon. Despite the janky operation that was being run here, the group persevered playing to a much eager crowd waiting to here the P4K darlings perform songs from their S/T album. The album is stuck in a timewarp from the mid-80’s when AIDS was a myth and people were still drinking Tab. The music spoke for itself and the group almost made La Condesna collapse with their magnetic sound.
Handsome Furs ::: Fader Fort ::: SXSW 2009
Call me selfish or spoiled, but I loved the performance from the band, but the fact that it was played at 2:15 in the PM (that’s Post Meridiem) outside made me a bit grumpy. The group nailed their performance. The energy created by the duo is remarkable and I’ve always said this, but will reiterate for those that don’t know where I stand, here you go: Handsome Furs > Wolf Parade > Sunset Rubdown > Swan Lake. In that order.
