Stephen McBean’s side band is starting to give his main band a run for their money. On the May 5th release of Outside Love (via Jagjaguwar), the Quaalude version of Black Mountain has members of Destroyer, Jesse Sykes And The Sweet Hereafter, Jackie O Motherfucker, The Organ, and Black Mountain contributing in ways that make you wish all other albums had this kind of help. The release plays like you would want Black Mountain to play after a really bad hangover. Something fairly tame and something that won’t make you believe that the room isn’t moving. I feel guilty admitting to this, but I like this album better than anything that Black Mountain has released and you can purchase the album here.
