Wentworth Kersey

The new S/T EP from Denver’s Wentworth Kersey is like Little House on the Prairie on ludes meets 2001. I’m not sure if that makes any sense, but the end result is sublime and a bit upsetting because the release party came and went without it being on my radar. You can purchase the S/T EP here.

Funeral Party

Kind of like Bloc Party, but not really. I read that the guys from FP recorded some of their stuff in the Mars Volta’s studio in LA. No joke, so I guess that makes them cool by association. The song below is not a bad way to start off the weekend either. Their EP, Bootleg was released this week and their full length should be out in April.

Passion Pit

Where have these guys been all my life! The sugary dream landscape artists are being compared to a dancey Sunny Day in Glasgow and already opening up for Girl Talk and Death Cab. Most importantly, they just got signed to French Kiss and they will be releasing their EP, Chunk of Change. Passion Pit will be doing a residency at Pianos in NYC in the month of August, catch them, for me……

The Knew

I had seen the Knew’s name everywhere around town, but always wondered who they were. I got my hands on their new EP, Boom Bust, to be released via EP release party (look at the poster), and I’m kind of kicking myself in the ass because of all the really great shows I’ve missed. The blue-collar roots rock packs a whopping punch that will now boast two EP’s and hopefully a full-length of new material very very soon. Coldback ,found below, has a crazy Replacements twinge to the track that would make Paul Westerberg very happy. You can buy the new EP in town at Twist, Wax-Trax, and Independent Records, or you could just go to their release party.

Black Francis

Black Francis has some new material in the form of an album/EP of sorts titled Svn Fngrs (what’s up w/everybody ditching out on their vowels?) and you can purchase it here. He will also be hitting the road in support of the Stone Temple Pilots (what year are we in again?).
