Brightblack Morning Light ::: Fillmore ::: 04.24.09
Would it be too much to ask for the group to set up their tepee on stage, create a campfire, and have a 30 minute improvisational jam? The funny thing is that the last thing did happen, or at least it felt like it. The ganja smoking (hearsay) and peyote swigging (more rumors) Matador alumn jammed on stage, but not in the way you’re thinking. More of like a jazz type jam, with no horn section created a sense of relaxation with a sense of curiosity to see what those crazy kids were going to do next on stage. I was expecting a bear skin somewhere on stage, just as decor, or perhaps a loin cloth, but the ambient licks sufficed enough, but not a prelude of what was to come that night. I regret not catching them at the Larimer Lounge on their last tour jaunt ; I’m sure it was a treat in such a small space.
