Blood Orange announces new album “Negro Swan”

Devonté Hynes (Blood Orange) announced the follow-up to the blockbuster “Freetown Sound” album with the forthcoming project, “Negro Swan,” scheduled for release August 24 via Domino Records. Fans eager anticipation for a new record lasted only two years, however, Hynes released an EP of sorts earlier in 2018 with “Black History;” a two-song release with tracks “Christopher & 6th” and “June 12th.”

Lightspeed Champion chimed in on the origins of “Negro Swan” :

“My newest album is an exploration into my own and many types of black depression, an honest look at the corners of black existence, and the ongoing anxieties of queer/people of color. A reach back into childhood and modern traumas, and the things we do to get through it all. The underlying thread through each piece on the album is the idea of HOPE, and the lights we can try to turn on within ourselves with a hopefully positive outcome of helping others out of their darkness.”

As one of the most versatile acts of our time, Dev’s influence and handiwork is always in demand as shown by working with the likes of Solange Knowles, Skepta, fka twigs, Carly Rae Jepsen, A$AP Rocky, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Blondie and many more. Catch the New Yorker on tour in support of the new material starting in September on a proper tour.
