“The Money Store” is coming looking to cash in on the massive hype behind the album released by Epic today. The west coast glitch hop masters are crushing it right now with the certified summer album that you’ll probably hearing at a ton of kickbacks or barbeques. The juxtaposition of the whip smart rhymes with the 8-bit beats create a brash reality that makes a Salt N Pepa sample seem extremely fierce. Not to be a Bobby Bummer, but for us Denver kids, the show is the same night as the Westword Music Showcase.

Essential Mix’s from BBC Radio 1 is an international treasure hosted by Pete Tong for almost twenty years that takes some of the most cutting edge artists for two hours with their favorite tunes/mixes. I’ve never heard an Essential Mix like Rustie’s to the point where I’m at a loss for words. Rustie is hustlin’ his album, “Glass Swords,” off of one of the best labels in the land, Warp, and will be hitting the road for a small North American Tour.

James Murphy is keeping pretty busy for someone that stated they wanted their life back or some semblance at least. I caught a DJ set by James Murphy once at the Church here in town. For those that haven’t been, the turntables are set high above in the sanctuary and you need to climb a ladder to get to the decks. I kind of ambushed JM to get the shot above, of course this was before LCD Soundsystem had turned into the behemoth that it is now. The Walkmen have announced the follow up to “Lisbon” and a slew of live dates. The Walkmen will be releasing “Heaven” on June 5 via Fat Possum, headlining CROSSING BROOKLYN FERRY FESTIVAL and opening up for Florence + the Machine which will be played at the legendary Red Rocks on July 25. Japandroids are back with a follow up to their 2009 album, “Post-Nothing.” The new album, “Celebration Rock,” will be released June 5 with a US tour proceeding the release. The first single, “the House That Heaven Built,” has everything that you would want in a new release from the duo: melodic screaming, drum bashing, rollicking guitar licks and perfect tempo. Crazy how it feels like the stage is still too small for two people when you hear them live.

I’m torn with the Shins. As popular as the Albuquerque band (yes, I said ALBQ because that’s where they were originally from) has become, it is quite evident that the once indie pop act has become a vehicle for James Mercer to flex his creative chops when he’s not messing around with Danger Mouse. I know there’s always going to be riffs between bandmates, but, it just seems like most of the band got the axe and two guys from Fruit Bats came to fill the void. Ex-Shins drummer,Jesse Sandoval, sought out a culinary passion by peddling tacos in Portland by default. Things could be a lot worse.

The Shins’ new album, “Port of Morrow,” will be out March 20 via Columbia Records. Look for them to be at SX this week and on tour for three dates with Sub Pop’s, the Head and the Heart. I bring this up because one of those dates will be on our home turf of Red Rocks and good luck getting tickets. You might have better luck at a casino playing blackjack.

It appeared that both had skipped out on Denver on past and upcoming dates, but don’t be discouraged fans, both Destroyer and Sleigh Bells will be bringing the ruckus to town. Destroyer is on his victory lap for the 2011 C=T fave, “Kaputt.” As for Sleigh Bells, they’re everywhere plugging their latest ear throttling album, “Reign of Terror.” The Bells were also handpicked by the Red Hot Chili Peppers to open up on their US tour later this year.

To say that I’m excited for Radiohead to be playing at the 1stBank Center in Broomfield, CO would be an understatement.
