Hamilton Leithauser is still crooning away in the latest album from the Walkmen, “Heaven,” set to be released May 29 via Fat Possum. The amount of output from one of the most durable acts in music comes in the form of seven albums in ten years. That’s almost on par with Frank Zappa or pretty damn close. The Walkmen become more refined with every album and like a good bottle of aged wine, the body of this album definitely has legs. Stream the new album via NPR over here. Look for the Walkmen to play with Florence + the Machine at Red Rocks come this July!

It’s around this same time every year that I look at the movie calendar with Memorial Day coming up in a couple of weeks. Unfortunately, the summer blockbuster of yesteryear was plentiful. However, due to a creative outage in Hollywood, we’re stuck with getting movie reboots and/or movie spinoffs of boardgames I use to play when I was a kid. “Battleship?” Seriously? As much eye candy as Rihanna provides, I’m not sure I could even waste $1.29 at the Redbox to see how bad that movie is waiting to suck. It’s quite possible that the movie may tread along the waters of a steaming cauldron of dog feces. I can almost guarantee that it will probably rake in the dough at the box office and a sequel will probably be in the works. The only other bright spot this summer will see will be the last Nolan “Batman” movie. I’m a little nervous about having Anne Hathaway playing Catwoman because her potential could be as bad as Michelle Pfeiffer’s performance. Wonder if Angelina Jolie was too busy?

Native sons of Chicago, California Wives, have set their sights out west. Which is great news because CW have signed with Santa Monica record label, Vagrant. In even better news, the guys are still working on their untitled debut album for release very very soon. The pending album will be their first work since their EP debut in 2010.

Well that was fast. Summer Camp could’ve rested on their laurels from their last album, “Welcome to Condale,” however, the duo have a treat for fans. The UK kids will be releasing a new EP titled, “Always,” this summer. The two wrote the material this past Christmas and wasted no time. CFCF’s video captured by the very talented, YoursTruly catches an extremely rendition of “September” while in Austin for SXSW. What’s gorgeous about YT, is that he can capture paint drying and it would still be as artistic as (fill in the blank) performing.

Age of Consent appears to have been spinning Depeche Mode’s “Master and Servant” with their latest single, “Heartbreak.” Look for a proper release scheduled June 11, 2012.

Tonight is Game 7 for the Denver Nuggets vs the Los Angeles Lakers. Many didn’t think the Nuggs had a chance, but here they are in LA trying to muscle their way in to the second round. I was inspired to make a California mixtape to cheer on my beloved basketball team. George Karl isn’t a stranger to this situation and hopefully tonight he can reverse his fortune from the time he was the Sonics’ coach and lost a pivotal game 7 vs his current team.

Never kick a dog when he/she’s down. That’s what Andrew Bynum did effectively with his infantile words about it being “easy” to close out teams when they have them on the ropes. His disconnect in last night’s Lakers v Nuggets NBA playoff game was one of pure disbelief and ambivalence. The have used that soundbite as a rallying cry for the last two games and have achieved when others said victory was only certain with a “star.” The role players on the Nuggets squad are playing above their expectations to the surprise of many fans. Saturday night will see the two Western Conference teams play a do or die final game and something tells me the two big guys, Gasol and Bynum, have their summer plans already penned in their itineraries starting Sunday morning.

It’s amazing what you can do with a projection screen and a dark room. The “unofficial” knob turner for Radiohead, Nigel Godrich, has assembled Ultraísta. Not much is known about the trio, but the first taste, “Smalltalk,” has been released with accompanying video. The vocals from the very cool Laura Bettinson comes across has an incantation of Beth Gibbons without sounding too pitchy with the electronic element of the 90′s heyday from the UK.
