Lots of Jack White news this AM. According to Variety, Jack White will be scoring the Johnny Depp remake of “the Lone Ranger” that is currently/was shot here in Colorado and New Mexico. Look for the film to hit theaters May 2013. Don’t be surprised to see White’s mug on the big screen like he did in “Cold Mountain.”

Jack White is on the trail supporting his solo album, “Blunderbuss,” that was released this week and performed on UK’s Jools Holland and will be coming to Denver this August.

It’s been over one year since LCD Soundsystem played their Denver show at the Fillmore Auditorium with Hot Chip. After witnessing hundreds and hundreds of shows, I can easily state without hesitation that one October night was one of the ones I’ll cherish forever. At the time there was speculation that it was the last tour/album that they’d be doing, and here we are, lamenting the loss of one of music’s best talents. “Shut Up and Play the Hits” is the documentary that tells the final tale and will see the light of day at Sundance this month (Sunday January 22). Thanks to Entertainment Weekly for the heads up!

Ximena Sariñana is a soulful singer from Chilangolandia Mexico City with an angelic voice that will attempt her crossover S/T album to be released August 2nd. Her last album, “Mediocore,” catapulted her on the music scene, and has been keeping busy performing with her boyfriend, Mars Volta axe-man, Omar Rodriguez-Lopez. She will be testing the waters with her new album, providing support for Fitz & the Tantrums and will be playing three times in the Colorado area in coming months(see dates below). She’s no stranger to Mexican film, and if you’re in the mood for a foreign film, may I suggest her film, “Amar te Duele.”

The trailer for “Hanna” plays like one of those movies that have you on the edge of your seat with fists clenched and sweaty palms. The film boasts an all-star cast with the likes of Cate Blanchett and Eric Banna as supporting characters and the movie revolving around young’un newcomer, Saoirse Ronan (you may recognize her from “the Lovely Bones”). The Chemical Brothers provided the film score, making the leap like Trent Reznor and Daft Punk to the silver screen. Look for the soundtrack release date through iTunes March 15th and a film release date through Focus Features on April 8th.

It’s good to see Nortec Collective’s music being used for Vice’s Guide to Mexican Narco Cinema. The funny thing is that I was talking to some friends this past weekend about El Ponchis and not looking at this kid the wrong way because the possibility of getting clipped was pretty high. I wonder if he’ll be tried as an adult or if he’ll escape prison in exchange for a “mordida” or two.

The Starz Denver Film Festival is around the corner and it seems to get bigger and better with every year that passes. What would a film festival be without a little music and partying? Café Tacvba is staying extremely busy these days, despite having no new album to peddle. The most important band from Mexico has announced the release of their documentary, “Seguir Siendo: Café Tacvba” , which follows the band around on tour and catches behind the scenes moments as they flex their creative muscles. As of right now, the movie is showing exclusively in Mexico in the cities listed below. The other big piece of news is that they have also contributed a track to the Os Mutantes Tribute album titled, “El Justiciero Cha Cha Cha; A Tribute to Os Mutantes”, that you can stream over here. Os Mutantes will be in town Nov. 23rd with Ariel Pink playing at the intimate Bluebird Theater.

You can say what you want about Girl Talk’s music or his signature mashups, but his live shows are like shaking up a bottle of Coca Cola and opening it shortly thereafter.The explosion slowly starts in the audience and eventually everybody ends up on stage and with less clothing. The magic is captured via several cameras strategically placed throughout the Congress Theatre in Chicago in a house constructed on stage that took over four days to create. We can expect a new album from Girl Talk next year and the rest of the year will see him doing only two dates.
