Bloc PartyBloc Party may have had a so-so sophomore album, but I don’t hold that against them. Even the lackluster songs on the album came to life in a shoulder to shoulder crowd eagerly anticipating Matt Tong’s next drum beat. The night was full of great openers, as expected,the short set by the Maccabee’s (NME’s Next Big Hope?) but don’t let that scare you, these lads are well deserving. They have a fiery angular chops and a distinct voice to match.The part of the night that impressed me the most, was the bluesy rock soul machine that is known as the Noisettes. I kind of dismissed them because their single annoyed me, however, not only did I leave the show a believer, but Shinghai Shoniwa (lead singer), brought me to my knees. On a totally random note, the music played before Bloc Party took stage was this random 90’s dance inferno that created the front of the Theatre into this quasi dance pit with everybody dancing their collective asses off to the sounds of DJ Darude’s late 90’s club anthem, Sandstorm.
