It’s Summertime, and the first Friday of the month is nice to stroll up and down Santa Fe. There’s a lot of galleries to choose to check out, however, the art of Miss Quinlan has always interested me and the pieces I’ve seen are fantastic. Don’t take my word for it, go to Boxcar Gallery and see for yourself.
Boxcar Gallery is proud to present, Too Much & Not Enough
an exhibition featuring the work of members Sarah Quinlan
and Neil Bigley. Opening reception First Friday, June 5th from
6-10pm and includes food and live music.
Mixed media artist Sarah Quinlan is interested in the
relationship between fashion, womanhood and the domestic
life. Her newest work, explores modern nostalgia through
print media of the past, where she exposes false identities
and ideals that have sold to the public since the 1930’s. She
focuses her attention, on the use of found objects to
symbolize individual identity overcome with the of replication
stereotypes.
In Neil Bigley’s current work, Parallax, he explores the
connection between the nature of consumption and the
American consumer. His graphite drawings are filled with
images of garbage which question both the values and
beliefs that are linked to the obsession with commodity. As
twenty first century Americans we are left to deal with the
consequences of decades of conspicuous consumption.
Too Much & Not Enough will open First Friday, June 5th from
6-10pm, and runs through July 18th 2009. Closing reception
on July 3rd from 6-10pm. Gallery hours are Friday from
4-8pm & Saturday from 12-3pm, or by appointment by
calling: 303.725.7047.
