Okkervil River
Gnarls Barkley
Thievery Corporation

This is where it got tricky. I had to split 1 hr 30 mins between 3 different bands and 3 different stages. This is the first of a couple of train wrecks that I will and had to endure. I think I handled it quite well. Gnarls Barkley was packed, and I didn’t even bother attempting to get to the front, so I enjoyed it from my friend Rydell’s vantage point. By the way, if you spot the Whataburger flag, he’ll be there and so will I. Gnarls started off with a cover of Thomas Dolby’s “She Blinded Me With Science” classic while wearing lab coats on stage. I have a thing about seeing bands in their hay-day. It’s never the same, and when they try to keep up the energy on a tour for an upcoming album , said band can never duplicate the same feeling felt from the debut album. Okkervil River sounded better than their CD and cant wait to see them in a more intimate setting. It was at this point that I needed to eat, my fuel had been burned and had to settle eating a wrap from Stubb’s. I did catch them doing “Black” as we walked en route to Gomez. Thievery Corporation convinced me to never not buy one of their albums and never miss a live performance. They had by far the best stage set up. The stage was busier than a Saturday night on 6th St. Belly dancers, DJ’s, full band, and Rastafarians. I could smell the incense from way over yonder.
