ACL WRAP UP

ok, so i think i have probably waited a while to do this, so goes, life gets busy and then there is a month wait between posts…

Day 1— a total wash, i got to the park super late and caught the tail end of the black crowes….yeesh….

Day 2— definately a chance to redeem from the night before and then some….

Death Cab for Cutie— A band so synonomous with a cult teen show, yet so talented, definately merits all the praise and hype that they are gaining for the latest release “Plans.” They play with a lot of sincerity and the incredible cohesiveness that isn’t found in many live acts today..

The Walkmen— NYC outfit that played an aggressive set introducing new material for their new record to be released next year. I do have to admit that their new material is going to be killla compared to “Bows and Arrows.”

The Fiery Furnaces— God do i luv this band, but they make it increasingly more difficult to like them after every new release. Their new cd, “Rehearsing the Choir” is a new album that what recorded with the bro/sis grandmother which tells the tail of her life to sum it up. Her voice is hard to digest, only upside to the story is that the new material with the grandmother’s voice is being sung by Eleanor which is a sigh of relief… her grandmother’s voice reminds me of Bobbie’s voice, a cafeteria worker from my elementary school in El Paso…

******Oasis and Jet******* The British Invasion which most of my friends kinda of wish would have been part of the British Retreat. That is all…

Drive by Truckers—-Horrible photo, I know, I haven’t figured out my camera…they were amazing, they didn’t play that much stuff off of their latest album, regardless, they show why they are important and what gritty real music should sound like.

Day Three-Last Day British Invasion Cont…
I swear this was the longest day, not to mention the amount of heat/dust we had to endure…more news later on the dust….

Doves—Their new album according to the world was not as successful as most anticipated, I tend to disagree and say “Lost Cities” was what you could expect from a band like Doves. It is a slow progression, and I am enjoying the path they are taking.

The Kaiser Chiefs
Rubbish, a horrible mess…

The Arcade Fire— The only reason I agreed to come to ACL… It was the best live act I have seen in a verrrrryyyy long time. They were surreal. It was incredible just to see them literally play musical chairs between songs. Raw emotion and pure manic energy never sounded better. I think David Bowie was watching from a far and not to mention how many shout outs were given to them during the Coldplay set to take place later this evening. Well deserved.

Wilco— I have seen Jeff Tweedy and Co. several times. Indoors, outdoors, and amphitheatres. They sound flawless wherever I hear them. It seems that everytime I hear “Spiders (Kidsmoke)” I bust into convulsions, no seriously.

Dusty ASS Austin, it is so f”en dusty and humid, man give a brotha some wata….

The Finale—COLDPLAY

We got as close as possible. Keep in mind that there was atleast 60k people trying to see the same show and I think we got as close as possible. Coldplay for the record is the band everybody loves to hate. They write lovey dovey songs that your girlfriend likes. What’s not to like about them. They aspire to be bigger than U2 and artistically more relevant than Radiohead. I don’t see either happening, because Radiohead is Radiohead and U2 is U2. As soon as they find their nitch, they will become a band that is uninhibited that will become this huge band that will be remembered for more than its assoication with a Hollywood actress and spawning a child with the name of a fruit.
