Kings of Leon on SNL

What are your thoughts on the new album?
It’s a bit on the slow and intimate side. Perhaps, not as rowdy as I wanted it to be, but plenty of other outlets seem to like Only By the Night. Look out for them this weekend.

NORTH AMERICAN TOUR ABOUT TO BEGIN

Kings of Leon are about to step into an excitingly manic week in America to support the release of their new record, the highly anticipated Only By The Night. The band are confirmed to be the music guest on Saturday Night Live this Saturday night, September 20th. Actor James Franco is set to host what should be a rather raucous and hilarious 90 minutes of television. Once the party dies down, Kings of Leon will move into release day, Tuesday, September 23rd, with a performance on the Late Show with David Letterman as well as an exclusive sold-out club date at New York’s Webster Hall later that evening. Also on release date, Spin magazine hits the streets with a cover story detailing the true, deep complexities and behind-the-scene machinations of this world-class band.

Kings of Leon will be arriving in America after spending several weeks in the UK, where the new single, “Sex on Fire,” has debuted at #1. This is the band’s first #1 single in that country. The North American tour begins October 11 at The Joint in Las Vegas, NV. On October 14, the band will appear on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

The early reviews for Only By The Night have been stellar. Vanity Fair hails the new record as “a big leap forward and genuinely ups the ante,” while Spin, in its four-star review, says that the band “still rule with a messy hand, applying rough magic and blurry, slurred imagery to their swashbuckling rock.” In the UK, Uncut magazine gives the record “Album of the Month” honors and exclaims, “the Kings of Leon aren’t impersonating the greats, they’re competing with them on an increasingly level playing field.” The Observer Music Monthly, in its glowing, five-out-of-five-star review, salutes the new record as it “boogies, choogles and howls at the moon — no irony intended, no guilt entertained.”

Only By The Night was recorded at Blackbird Studios in Nashville, TN, and was produced by Angelo Petraglia and Jacquire King. It is a bold and expansive sonic statement that looks set to solidify Kings of Leon’s position as one of the most important international acts of 2008 and beyond.
