Not like what our furry canine friends get, but in the form of a new album. The Shins (aka James Mercer) return after a five year breather since the release of their last album, “the Port of Morrow.” Look for the fifth studio album, “Heartworms,” to drop March 10 via Aural Apothecary/Columbia.

Although, the Shins might not be changing any lives since “Garden State,” Mercer is a genius when it comes to penning pop songs. The new supporting cast for the biggest New Mexican act consists of Yuuki Matthews (bass), Jon Sortland (drums), Mark Watrous (guitar, keys, vocals), Casey Foubert (guitar) and Patti King (keys) to join the bearded wonder on the road and on NPR mainstay, “A Prairie Home Companion,” on January 7 at 3PM PST.
