It feels lately that new acts trying to make a name for themselves start by coming out with a cover whether it be an oldie but a goodie or something extremely recent. Today’s covers cover both ends of that spectrum and I’m extremely smitten with Anabot’s take on the punch you in the mouth track from Japandroids’ new material, “the House That Heaven Built.” Each cover takes a successful jab at the original and does the song justice. The “Dirty Laundry” cover is an immediate upgrade. I had always found Don Henley slightly annoying and the accompanying video even more so. Silver Medallion was inspired by watching the HBO series, “Girls,” and decided to put a male voice and electro twist to the track, not deriving too far from the original, but enough to give the tune a new identity. Lastly, Givers teamed up with Dickie Landry to give a timeless classic a youthful reboot.
