Tame Impala capped off a two-night stint at the Mission Ballroom last night as the penultimate stop on their US tour before it all ends at the 2019 Austin City Limits Music Festival.

Despite the obvious language barrier with openers Altın Gün, certain things don’t need a translation. Our new favorite Nederlanders made believers out of the fans who were smart enough to show up early. The unique sound is what it would be if there was a harem inside of a funky disco.

Kevin Parker’s journey in the vehicle of Tame Impala is one that can do no wrong. In the time the Aussie has released three albums, Parker has remained relevant and continues reinventing himself by working with a lineup that reads like a MTV Music Awards list: Travis Scott, SZA, Lady Gaga, Mark Ronson, Kanye West, Kali Uchis, Theophilus London, Miguel, and A$AP Rocky.

2019 saw the release of “Borderline” and “Patience” as a single with two side A’s. Over the two nights, Tame Impala conquered not only with their confetti cannons and stunning light show, but their wobbly beats and psych-rock jams.

It’s easy to pass off mind-blowing light shows and confetti displays as gimmicky, but Kevin Parker is a true showman that is quietly owning the music landscape with his production skills. Last night was no different. The blokes from Tame Impala never took their foot off the gas with the extended version of “Let It Happen” to a stage shattering take on “Elephant” that included a bananas seizure-inducing light show. ‘Twas magical indeed.
