Flume is an ultra-versatile electronic producer from Australia who manages to seamlessly weave together elements of EDM, pop, and hip-hop music- creating a whirlwind of an electronic spectacle.
The one-man act’s most recent stint included two nights at the famed Red Rocks Amphitheater. Billed as “Flume and Friends”, the two-night stand included performances from familiar collaborators like JPEG Mafia and Slow Thai.
The night began with a marathon of SoundCloud rap from the two previously mentioned collaborators. Both JPEG Mafia and Slow Thai laid out their brand of intense, no-rules hip-hop that is often defined by its deep basslines and off-beat, dark vocal melodies and patterns. Steeping the crowd into a frenzy of bass and sharp rap call-back chants, the crowd seemed primed for the headlining performance well before the end of the openers’ sets.
Alas, Flume arrived to give everyone the fix they were waiting for: infectious pop hooks over glitched out EDM breaks. Guest stars packed the hour and a half set for alternate takes on Flume favorites. Donned with pyrotechnics, lasers, and even arts stunts of his own, Flume cast a spell over the sold-out venue that will keep attendees stunned for weeks.
