The musical landscape in Español has changed dramatically in the last forty years.
Long gone are the days of “rock en español.” All of today’s generation want to hear nowadays is trap beats, Bad Bunny and Cardi B. Mainstays like Duncan Dhu, Soda Stereo and Maná laid a foundation for today’s artists in the Latinx realm of popular music that seems like a complete afterthought.
Acts like Enanitos Verdes and Hombres G continue carrying the torch in hopes of inspiring a new wave of “rock en español” artists. The Argentinean and Spanish acts respectively are currently on the “Huevos Revueltos” (Scrambled Eggs) tour. The name is a bit wonky, but the concept is novel.
Typically in nostalgic tours consisting of groups of rock’s yesteryear, each act shares an equal length set and everybody goes home happy. Last night saw members of both acts on stage at the same time playing each other’s songs.
“Mejor No Hablemos De Amor” took on a different feel with all of the “huevos revueltos” on stage as did the massive Hombres G hit, “Te Quiero.” Despite the obvious elder statesman status from both acts, the gas in the tank is definitely past half full. Lead singers Marciano Cantero (Los Enanitos Verdes) and David Summers Rodríguez (Hombres G) are as spry as ever transporting the crowd back in time by about twenty to thirty years. Especially for those of us that weren’t old enough to attend concerts.
This isn’t the first time the two legendary acts have toured together; last year saw the titans of Latinx rock tour the road as in a journey that ignited a special kinship.
