Grandoozy Music Festival 2018

We came, we saw, we Grandoozy’d. For a first-year festival felt different upon arriving at Overland Golf Course Friday afternoon in the middle of the hottest part of the day. They say the “devil’s in the details.” Organizers really thought of almost everything (parking not included). From Evans on the Southside entrance, there was a gated path that led spectators right to the entrance instead of meandering through the neighborhood streets causing a ruckus.

Neighbors of Overland Golf Course were given tickets to the festival and accommodated accordingly for their inconvenience. Sure there was the entire “do I Uber or ride my bike” conundrum, but we all acclimated accordingly. It wasn’t the end of the world to wait in line for public transportation.

The variety of food options on both sides of the golf course was carefully curated highlighting some of the finest delicacies that Denver has to offer from Bar Dough to Illegal Pete’s. Hell, Snooze was on hand to serve up their scrumptious pancakes for those enamored with the idea of having breakfast for dinner.

What’s a music festival without libations? The unlimited options of top shelf spirits spoiled a great deal of us not in the mood of drinking heavy beer in the sweltering heat, namely the fine folks over at the Flight School booth. Attendees breezed through line with the addition of an Apple Pay option that proved to be a huge hit amongst those that took advantage of the non-cash option.

And of course, we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention the caliber of talent over the three day weekend. Superfly excelled with choosing top tier headliners and a more than capable supporting cast that captivated audiences over the course of the many stages on the greens. Thank God for the trees that provided plenty of respite from the unforgiving sun.

It’s said that Superfly has a five year deal with the city to see if they’re a good fit. The difference between Grandoozy and other failed music festivals in the city is the lack of attention to detail. Mile High Music Festival felt sterile and the lineup read like adult contemporary radio station KBCO studio playlist. Monolith Festival was ahead of its’ time with their talent and the Red Rock Amphitheater setting proved to be a challenge for acts and attendees. Grandoozy was the perfect mix and made all corners of the golf course accessible for everyone. Let’s hope that we get a second crack in 2019.
