Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks get “Shiggy” on new single

Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks are getting “Shiggy” with their new material. The Portland crew released their second piece of music within the last two months with their latest offering, “Shiggy,” the follow up to the political declaration, “Middle America.”

According to Malkmus’ interview with Kyle Meredith below, the Jicks set out to make a “rock album” with the delivery of a new album with “Sparkle Hard” scheduled for release May 18. Don’t hold any hope for any Pavement reunions at this time as Stephen isn’t “too keen” on the idea as the ex-Pavement frontman states on his chat with Meredith.

Malkmus goes back to his true shredder ways with the thundering new single, “Shiggy,” that sounds like the first piece of Pavement material on steroids since “Terror Twilight.” At this time, the clear definition of “Shiggy” is only available with Urban Dictionary as being “Off-road hashing (running) trail through muck, mud or other wet areas.” So there’s that.

Sparkle Hard Tracklisting:

1. Cast Off

5. Middle America

8. Kite
