Low Cut Connie is not your ordinary bar band. Piano rock driven ballads is a style of music that isn’t as prevalent as it was back in the day of Billy Joel or Sir Elton John.
But there was Low Cut Connie’s central figure, Adam Weiner jumping around the small Hi-Dive stage like a child on Halloween after ingesting a full bag of candy. Despite the size of one of the quaintest venues in town, Weiner played as if he was front and center at Wembley Stadium.
Weiner’s panache overpowered the sold out crowd. From the moment that the svelt performer flexed his buttocks for the South Broadway crowd to see, Adam pionereed a well rehearsed act that lived up to the hype from Sir Elton.
Low Cut Connie masterfully trucked their way through a raucous set with many nuggets from their 2017 release, “Dirty Pictures (Part 1).” NPR mainstay, “Revolution Rock and Roll,” brought the most cheer from the packed fan base with “Angela” capturing a playful lot from Philadelphia.
It takes a certain chutzpah to cover Prince and Tom Petty in one set. Low Cut Connie took the call to arms and closed down the night with their skilled take of “Controversy.”
