Jerry Garcia would’ve been 75 years old this year. The spirit of the bearded wonder is slated to be celebrated with a few friends at Red Rocks Amphitheatre August 4.
What better way to celebrate the jam band legacy than with more music? Look for Bob Weir take the call to arms with his current band, the Campfire Band. The all-star lineup includes jazz maestro, Kamasi Washington, Melvin Seals, Duane Trucks, Oteil Burbridge, Tom Hamilton, Gloria Jones and Jackie LaBranch.

Notably absent are the other Grateful Dead members, Phil Lesh and Mickey Hart. Most recently, Dead & Company took over Boulder’s Folsom Field for a two-day gig that included axeman for hire, John Mayer. According to the Boulder Daily Camera, day one of the two-day show brought around 23,000 attendees, well short of the 42,000 that the famed football field is capable of holding.
Most recently, the superb documentary “Long Strange Trip” released this past May courtesy of filmmaker, Amir Bar-Lev. The director immersed himself in the long haul of fourteen years that captures the true spirit of the wanderlusting act that’s responsible for creating an entire culture revolved around following the jam band pioneers. The documentary experience is a task in itself with a four hour running time. That’s a lot of popcorn!
