Run the Jewels ::: Fillmore Auditorium ::: 02.11.17

Run the Jewels duo of Killer Mike and El-P are not and did not roll over and “take it.” The hard charging twosome akin to a pack of rabid dogs successfully amped up a sold out Fillmore crowd. Gaslamp Killer proved as a worthy opener, keeping the stage well prepared with foreign beats from Turkey and Nintendo glitches.

What set aside this performance from other hip hop shows is the social relevancy and commentary. The premier voice on hip hop and politics struck a chord with a bud majority crowd that refuses to see eye to eye with the Cheeto in Chief. In the time that I have been attending concerts regularly, I have never seen a fan so committed to an artist to the point where they create an art piece. Unfortunately, I was unable to get the fan’s name, but able to get a decent shot of the work. RTJ solidly landed a quick 1-2 punch with “Legend” and “Ticketron,” preparing for the colossal uppercut of “Blockbuster Night Pt. 1.”
