Project Pabst expanded outside of their safe confines in Portland to include Denver in their latest foray to take over nightlife with a one day music festival that successfully turned Larimer Street into a music lover’s paradise.
AEG and Pabst Blue Ribbon beer (the unofficial beer of hipsters alike) sold out the inaugural music showdown in the RiNo district of town that is all but guaranteed a second coming in 2017.
Local heroes, Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats proved to be more than a worthy headliner with a Red Rocks sold out date on the horizon. Last minute stand ins, Best Coast, proved to be more than formidable replacement for “SNL” bound, Courtney Barnett with their slick tunes of life out on the left coast.
The sweltering heat held many surprises with heavy rockers Baroness and hip hop southerner, Big K.R.I.T. turning in some of the stronger performances of the day.
That was until the “Screaming Eagle” of soul, Charles Bradley laid it all out for the crowd to absorb what it looks like to be effortlessly cool.
The Larimer Lounge provided a nice reprieve for the heat with some bone crushing acts with the Coathangers and Metz melting faces in the über packed venue.
In another appearance by somewhat local act, Violent Femmes, the nostalgic act pulled a fast one on fans. Instead of waiting till the very end to play “Blister in the Sun” or “Kiss Off,” the trio kicked off their set with those two songs respectively. A ballsy move by a confident Gordon Gano.
High fives for all involved with a great showing from food vendors and art galore.
