The biggest commercial hit the Grateful Dead ever really recorded was “Touch of Grey.” We remember the moving skeletons on stage back when VH1 use to show videos many moons ago. The Dessner brothers from the National compiled a mega collection of Grateful Dead covers and the War on Drugs opened to go with the most sounding War on Drugs, except they turned the jam into more of a sprawling take of an otherwise softer sounding Jerry Garcia/Robert Hunter track. Look for the tribute album, “Day of the Dead,” to drop May 20 via 4AD. Proceeds go to benefit the non-profit organization Red Hot.
