XL Records’ latest signing from Las Vegas is creating quite the stir. Shamir Bailey is celebrating the debut release of his LP, “Ratchet.” Despite not being alive during the heyday of early 90s R&B when Cross Colours was king and Kid n Play were tearing up the scene with their “pajammy jam jams.” Bailey’s countertenor vocals took on a different life Saturday night at Lost Lake. Bailey dialed up a genre bending explosive set that unapologetically delved back to his earlier EP, “Northtown,”

The hot fire of the evening came when “Call if Off” set the tightly packed crowd into a dancing frenzy. Shamir wasn’t afraid to let loose either, showing mutual admiration for the crowd while suavely moving anticipating that next beat. Shamir’s backing crew were the silent heroes of the night, creating disco beats and hype as a solid foundation for the young Nevadan on a mission to show that “Ratchet” is only the beginning of a long and lustrous career.
