Nicki Minaj recently toned down her style and her tour brought many compelling elements that reflect more than a change in style. She brought class, sexiness and even some street to the Pepsi Center Tuesday night for the “Pinkprint Tour.” Fans got the best of all worlds especially when it comes to this female MC. We also get to see a little glimmer of her current relationship with rapper, Meek Mills. The embattled hip hopper is also rostered on the “Pinkprint Tour. ” This tour has mass appeal for everyone despite any prior dispositions towards any hip hop or EDM.
Up and coming artists Tinashe and Rae Seremurda hyped the crowd up for Nicki Minaj in the heavily crowded Pepsi Center. Meek Mill stepped up with all the controversy surrounding him and Toronto’s very own, Drake. A lot of people were wondering would any of those frustrations come out within his set . And indeed they did come out in his performance. The Drake beef did not seem to be omitted ,which the crowd ate up instantaneously. Meek Mill commented about Instagram and if any of the audience members have been hated or hated on, to put a middle finger in the air . As he performed a segment of ”F— You” a strategic background with the words “f—- you” littered the stage scenery. It’s not clear if the message was directed at haters in general or Drake, but it made for a great theater.
Nicki came up from the stage floor opening with a lights out take of “ All things Go.” Nicki had a nimble ballerina come to the stage and dance during her opening numbers that served as an interesting side act with class. Minaj’s backup crew coordinated with her outfits and changed accordingly. The first of the Tour outfits for the night was a sheer top and black pants , followed by a sheer catsuit with a matching bra and panties. Mind you, the cat suit was pleasantly revealing and accentuated all of her assets. Cameras do no justice for her “personality.” As many audience members were overheard commenting that “it was even better in person.”
Throughout the show there were approximately four outfit changes including the ones already mentioned. Part of the allure of a Nicki show are the exuberant outfit changes. Of course there was a gold bustier , matching gold roman like mini skirt , nude stocking and gold boots. Lastly, a classy but exotic ballroom pink dress. Nicki Minaj did a set of twenty-seven songs plus a few tracks from her previous mixtapes and features with other artists on the young money label. Now we all know Nicki is known to give a lap dance or two during her performances. During her “ Dance A$$” performance, she wowed the audience by giving her female dancer a lap dance while her dancer laid on the floor and the audience cheered. And the sexiness from her and her dancers did not cease to continue through the night. She mentioned in the performance before “Anaconda” that she could not stand “a lazy bitch” and in girl power fashion she conducted a motivational speech that boiled down to: a woman should never have to depend on a man for nothing , that she should always be able to have her own and provide for her own. The crowd cheered in response to this pep-talk and the females in the crowd yelled cheered in support.
Nicki was dialed in with her fans throughout her crushing set. Even audience members contributed on “VA VA VOOM” in a show of support for the crowd. The most enticing crowd pleaser was being able to show Nicki how much of a fan base she truly had in Denver, by challenging the crowd in a little “do you know what the lyrics are to this song?” During this time, the house DJ would spin tracks from her mixtape including “Freaky Girl,” Young Money’s “Bedrock” and Drake’s “I’m So Proud of You.” Nicki ended the concert with a series of very flirty pop songs, that really got the crowd gyrating , and the heels on my feet where literally screaming to come off because I literally danced the night away. The evening culminated during a medley of “Starships” and “the Night is Young” with a burst of confetti exploded in the air.
