Lord Huron & Leon Bridges @ Gothic Theatre ::: 04.22.15

Lord Huron

Sometimes tour are paired with two acts that don’t have much to do with each other, aside from the fact that they share the same record label. Last night’s show joined old school soul and a rebirth of Jackson Browne with Leon Bridges and Lord Huron playing a heavily sold out crowd at the Gothic Theatre. Leon Bridges’ soulful voice sent shivers down nicely warming the stage for Lord Huron with hits “Coming Home” and “Lisa Sawyer.” Not bad for a young artist with no full length album.

Los Angelinos act, Lord Huron, have an interesting schtick going on with the release of their latest album, “Strange Trails.” The album release is being treated as a comic that teeters the fine line between gimmicky and brilliant. Trailer mix was one of the items at the merch table for sale next to the shirts and vinyl. LH colorfully blended the old 50s greaser rock act with the writing sensibilities of a weathered songwriter from the 70s to morph into a hybrid act. Lead vocalist, Ben Schneider, corralled the crew on stage to successfully create a forest landscape with band members dressed up as extras from “the Outsiders.” Despite the obvious correlation between their music and Triple-A radio format style (KBCO), Lord Huron’s music is more complex than that. IAMSOUND’s brightest star won the crowd early with a euphoric take on “Lonesome Dreams” that instantly satisfied the rabid Gothic Theatre crowd. Look for Schneider and the guys wrap up their tour in Colorado this August.
