One of the hardest working psych acts are calling it quits. It’s a damn shame, Foxygen. We hardly know ye. Last night’s visit in Boulder at the Fox Theater by LA’s Foxygen punctuated one of the most energetic 60 minutes worth of entertainment put forth by any band I have ever witnessed. Shades of the Stooges, Happy Mondays and a slow soul pitch created a swirl of manic freakouts with perfectly orchestrated time movements. Sam France and Jonathan Rado are hanging it up too soon and a joint project, although, they’re talented enough that they’ll come back reincarnated as a different outfit. Oftentimes, well crafted jams turned into noodling medleys that reversed to slow spastic crooning. All in all, a brilliant night of musical theater that resembled “Hedwig” with a successful portrayal of “glam rock.” The crazy thing is that the shining Jagjaguwar act was scheduled to play from 915-1045. Extra shoutout to the backup singers/dancers. Those ladies performed their hearts out not stopping once throughout the show playing the roll of backup vocals, cheerleader and stage candy.
