When Mark Kozelek isn’t being a douche, and antagonizing the War on Drugs, the guy can pen a pretty amazing tune. “Benji” is one of those albums that has that tight cohesiveness that could have been recorded in one take over the course of a couple bottles of whiskey and several packs of smokes. The album reminisces of a simpler time and squandered love. Kozelek’s familiar voice is like an old friend that you haven’t spoken with in years, but has the ability of reconnecting without missing a step. “Benji” hits its’ stride on “Micheline,” accentuating all things Sun Kil Moon does right, flawlessly.
