Nathaniel Rateliff + the Night Sweats

Nathaniel + the Night Sweats crammed as many people and energy on the Hi-Dive stage not seen in years. Rateliff brought the swagger of a Baptist preacher during a revival service leading the charge with his guitar and trusty tambourine. The all – star group consisting of Patrick Meese (drums), Joseph Pope III (guitar), Mark Schusterman (keys), Rett Rogers (bass) and Joshua Trinidad (horn) channeled the fury of a raucous James Brown show circa late 60s with their small catalog of tunes to celebrate their 7″ release. The heavily sold out show witnessed a different side of Rateliff that usually teeters on the folky side. The new project exuded a sleazy Blues Brothers vibe that had the entire crowd hootin’ and hollerin’ through the short set. This past Saturday was the last Night Sweats show for the time being, however, a full album is slated to be released.

  1. Hey. Sweet photos. I feel like your review should also include the names Mark Schusterman (on keys) and Rett Rogers (on bass). I didn’t catch the other two horn players’ names, but the whole band deserves recognition for that awesome set.

Also, for the sake of clarity, it should be noted that the setlist pictured belonged to the opening band Ark Life, who put on an excellent show themselves.

But anyway, those are some sweet shots. Nice job.

PS: Blues Brothers, not Blue Brothers.
