A full decade has passed since the release of “Give Up.” The Postal Service was always a side project that was never meant to achieve the level of success/popularity that the duo (trio?) has reached. The sold-out Red Rocks crowd gobbled up everything that the Sub-Pop kids were dishing up in a blustery perfect evening that had many thinking that the show might have been canceled due to a show cancellation this week in Salt Lake. Skinny Ben Gibbard did his best one-two dance steps with Jimmy Tamborello serving as the electronic maestro for last night’s ceremonies. The surprise of the evening came in the shape of Jenny Lewis. The ex-“Troop Beverly Hills” star played the delightful wild card with her vocal contributions and perfectly coiffed with fishnet stalkings and beautiful black and white patent leather shoes that gleamed in the spotlight. The chemistry between Jenny Lewis and Ben Gibbard appeared as a new-ish couple still very much in love during the honeymoon stage of the relationship as the two sashayed across the gargantuan stage. My apprehension of last night’s show stemmed from the uncertainty of how their live show would translate due to the heavy leaning on the electronic element of the act’s aesthetic. The Postal Service delivered resounding fun and lighthearted show that exceeded my expectations. Check out their tour dates for the rest of the summer and don’t miss out.
