the Weekender ::: Frank Ocean // John Mayer on SNL + official “Pyramids” video + Grizzly Bear on Fallon
Imagine the dismay of many upon learning that Frank Ocean would be making his SNL debut with the likes of John Mayer. I guess it could’ve been worse. My only qualm was the direction that Ocean decided to take with “Pyramids” live and the ending. Did we really need to see Mayer do an albeit sweet guitar solo despite the spotlight really being on Frank Ocean to end the song? On the upside, the official video for “Pyramids” looks like Ocean had a crazy visit (are there any other kind) with Hunter S. Thompson in “Fear in Loathing in Las Vegas.” Would you expect there to be anything but a BMW bike in the video?
After the Fallon performance from Grizzly Bear on Friday night, one thing is certain. The live show on this upcoming tour is going to display the quartet as one of the most gripping live shows of the year. Be on the lookout for the worldwide release of their forthcoming album, “Shield,” to be release September 18.
