Jack White ::: Isdajo Automotive ::: 08.08.12

Unless you were glued to Twitter for the last couple of days, chances are you missed an impromptu Jack White show on west Colfax. It was only a four song set, but nonetheless, it was Jack White. I work in Highlands Ranch, which might as well would’ve been Pueblo, because I found out twenty minutes too late. Luckily, Enrique Jimenez, all around shredder from Panal S.A. de C. V. was on the scene to take some great photos and give his 2¢.

“Riding 8 miles in the near 100 degree weather to catch Jack White play a secret show is not something I would normally do. I guess having spent the night before at Unit E watching his current keyboardist, Ikey Owens, play an improvisational set with some of Denver’s most talented musicians, something stuck. The place was packed and abuzz with rumors of a Jack White appearance but it never happened. Thirty minutes before the first guitar chords were struck, the secret show was announced via The Third Man twitter account:

Jack White. B show. B there. B square. Isdajo Automotive. 3411 W. Colfax Ave. Denver. 3:30 PM.

I arrived just as the band was starting the first song. Cars on Colfax slowed to a crawl as drivers rubbernecked to see what the ruckus was about. As I jockeyed for a position in the crowd for a photo op, the band tore into a great version of Dick Dale’s “Misirlou” and then the White Stripes “Ball and Biscuit”. I didn’t recognize the other songs but the crowd sure did. After about 20 minutes it ended just as abruptly as it had started, with Jack White saying “thank you” and security quickly escorted them to their limo van while the crowd looked around at each other with faces of disbelief.”
