It’s amazing what a couple of years of touring will do for your sound. The first Denver visit consisted of a sloppy rollicking set at Hi-Dive that nearly saw both band members pummel each other with how hard they were playing their respective instruments. “Celebration Rock” has brought both Brian King and David Prowse from being a one album wonder with their easy to singalong new material. Often times, the rambunctious chanting from the sardine packed crowd felt a little “bro-ish” at times, but not enough to distract from the frenetically paced show King was conducting. It appears that the duo isn’t completely dead set on cramming the new album down everybody’s throat. The duo delved into “Post-Nothing” quite often inciting large cheers from the predominately male crowd. A quasi mosh-pit/wave erupted dead center and my wish of seeing a “brah” crush a PBR tallboy on his forehead wasn’t granted. Alas, Japandroids struck fast and often, much like their studio albums nailing “Evil Sway” and “the House That Heaven Built” off of the newest album as highlights of the evening. The intense chemistry between the two made the crescendos from last night’s blitzkrieg extremely calculating.
