the Weekender ::: Coachella highlights including Radiohead & more + Gotye on SNL
Gotye and Kimbra both showed up on Saturday Night Live handling the musical duties for Josh Brolin. The first thing that came to mind when watching Brolin as host is that this guy was the punk brother from “the Goonies.” Crazy. While on the east coast, Gotye checked in with David Dye from World Cafe for a four track session that you can check out over here. Keep in mind that this US media blitz had Gotye travel back to Coachella for his Sunday show.
I never understood the allure behind watching festivals via a live stream from home. Why would you tease yourself by watching something thousands of miles away in the polo fields of Coachella? As I asked myself that question Friday night, it became pretty f’n clear when I saw Pulp doing their thing on “Common People” that I realized, “I can actually watch this and not feel bad about not being packed like sardines and paying $10 a beer.” I tried watching Mazzy Star’s set and I’m 100% sure that it was one of those, “you had to be there,” type sets, because it was putting me to sleep and bumming me out. If you missed any of the sets, check out a couple of the videos below that made me “wish I was there.” For as much shit as Bon Iver gets, his set was one of the highlights of the weekend.
