Peter Hook and the Light ::: Bluebird Theater ::: 09.20.11
Half of an item has been crossed off of my bucket-list. I’m a monstrous New Order/Joy Division fan, and being able to catch Hooky on the small stage at the crowded Bluebird Theater backed up by a more than capable quartet, the Light, performing “Unknown Pleasures” with a few other nuggets was a tad surreal. Hook channeled his inner Ian Curtis and was able to nail some of those baritone notes in Mancunian glory. Peter danced away his early jitters and settled in by the second track shuffling his way from side to side with his trademark bass calling card. I regret not trying harder to catch New Order when I had the chance. The likelihood of them reuniting is as good as the Smiths at this point. It’s worth noting that the Light aren’t on this Joy Division as second-class citizens. The lads showed up to play and owned their respective roles at recreating a night that most of us never had a chance in witnessing.
