DJ Mu$a wants you to meet his “Robot Girlfriend.” It’s the name of his new effort that plays like something you would put on late night to seal the deal with a potential lover or get some girl pregnant upon first listen. It’s that sensual, steamy and the antithesis of a “mashup.” C=T caught up with DJ Mu$a to talk about his Sci-fi passion, the old Denver music scene and potentially going “Bot.” I wonder if he watched “A.I.” before making this release or inspired by Gigolo Joe? You can cop “My Robot Girlfriend” here.
IF I WAS YOUR ROBOT GIRLFRIEND by DJMUSAWORLDWIDE
You’re a stalwart in the Denver DJ scene that has been making the
rounds for years. How has the scene evovled from when you first hit
the scene?
“There was no scene really when I first started playing out. There was just a handful of dedicated music people back then and we just did shit because we loved music. It’s great that Denver has developed and grown as a music city. Now there’s a ton is stuff going on. I’m proud to be from here and all the dope stuff and artists that are doing things now.”
How was the recording process on the new album?
” I actually had more fun making this cd than I have had doing a project in a long time. I really had a theme and a focus so it made it a lot easier to really push the concept with the sounds and songs I chose. My friends all kinda though I lost it because I didn’t go out at all for about 3 months but I was so into the project I just wanted to work on it everyday.”
This album is more than a “Girl Talk” or “Mash-Up” compilation. Talk to us about the themes you’ve incorporated.
“Yeah I don’t really like “mash-up”s a whole lot. I was trying to make more of a collage of sounds. There’s stuff floating in and out the whole cd, strings, pianos, vocal sample, noises, drums, whatever. I tried to make it one entire moving piece of music where the majority of the sounds are at least in the same key. It’s just makes it easier for the listener. Some of the mash up stuff is just two songs throw together and I tried really hard to make sure this was more than that.”
What experiences do you see yourself getting into if you were to go “Bot?”
“I kinda meant this whole cd to be like a soundtrack to what that “Going Bot” experience might be like. I’m a sci-fi head so the fantasy of that is intriguing to me. I would imaging we would get up to quite a bit of trouble.”
What kind of support are you putting together for the release?
“This Friday the 15th, Peter Black and Analog Space are hosting my CD release event at the Meadowlark (2701 Larimer) Interactive DJ // Sample // Live Acoustic set featuring, myself, DJ PETER BLACK, Doug Anderson playing stand-up Bass/ Keyboards. Visuals provided by: AUDIO // VISUAL // VIOLENCE // CLUB. We will also be selling the limited edition cd with original artwork by Peter and Joshua Mays. Should be a good time.”
