C=T sent contributor Kathleen Tarrant to the Larimer Lounge last week to have her face kicked in by Thee Oh Sees. Check out her review below and make sure to look out for them at SX this year.
Thee Oh Sees-I Was Denied [mp3]
Thee Oh Sees show was packed to the gills on Thursday, with people
creating a crush against the low stage that built during the two
openers; Zebroids and Pacific Pride. With material largely from their
most recent records, “Help” and “Warm Slime,” frontman John Dwyer
helped create a grooving, thrashing pit that didn’t stop moving for
the entire hour long set.
Thee Oh Sees, who have operated under different versions of that
moniker, lay down psychedelic, repetitive melodies that roll in grit
and distortion. With heavy, hooky tunes like “Ruby Go Home,” Dwyer and
company decimated the Larimer, leaving the crowd with ringing ears and
the smell of stale beer and sweat, reminding us of what a rock and
roll show can really do.
