Muse plays Denver, take two!
The English rockers made their much awaited performance in Denver after being canceled in April after a fluke snowstorm prevented their massive stage production setup from getting through I-70. The show was to have taken place at the 1st Bank Center, however, since then, the show moved to the much spacious, and not so distant Pepsi Center. The massive stage proved to be no strangers to Passion Pit. The Boston indie-darlings made their presence known quickly with a comprehensive take on “Manners” that had easily converted many in the crowd from spectators to raucous fans. It’s always hit or miss when you take a smaller act such as Passion Pit to the bright lights of an arena to see how their sound/act translate in front of an unknowing crowd. They ended their set with the synth-muscular , “Sleepyhead”. Muse took the stage with three high rises carefully designed to create three separate elevated stages for the trio. I’m afraid of heights and to be performing like that in front of a near capacity crowd would’ve scared the bejesus out of me. Muse started things off with a crushing take on, “Exogenesis” that would’ve held it’s own with any of the older arena rock veterans (i.e. U2, Coldplay). After a few songs the three returned to eye level to continue plowing through near twenty year repertoire that proved why Muse continues garnering accolades for their arena rock brilliance. The intricate stage setup for the UK rock royalty was most impressive. Of my concert going experiences that have seen many a shows, Muse’s stage show could easily be one of my favorites. All I could think about was that old video game “Rampage” that had King Kong, Godzilla, or Werewolf to come out of nowhere and start crushing the three buildings.
